Horse Costing

Buying a horse is so tempting especially after seeing that Marlboro commercial matched with that very catchy classical soundtrack. But there are many things to consider before actually purchasing one.

First is the location of your residence. It is really not wise if you want to buy a horse and then you live in New York City. But, if you can manage to pull off owning or renting a stable in the countryside near New York then we might just say yes to that.

If you live in Tennessee where there is a wide space for your horse to run freely, then owning a horse could actually be a necessity. Not only will it be fun for you ride on it but it is actually eco-friendly!

You are saving mother earth from the harmful emission of carbon dioxide coming from driving a car. In a way, you even save money from buying gas, car maintenance and other things that you need to pay when you own a car.

But here is the thing, unless you own a horse ranch or a stable; the maintenance when you buy a horse could be a little expensive than you think. Stabling fees can cost you a lot. Renting a stable for your horse could range from $200 to $500 a month depending on location.

So in a year, you’d have to ready at least $2400 for the stabling fee alone. This is a good option though while you do not have your own farm or stable yet.

Now let’s talk about how much money you are going to pay for your horse’s meal. It is a must that you have a stock of bales of hay. In a day, you are expected to have the standard amount of half a bale which is around 180 to 190 bales of hay annually.

When it comes to the price, a bale of hay is around $2.00 and can sometimes go up to $3.00. But these are not the only food your horse would eat. Grains and some sweet feed intake for your horse are also included in their daily dietary allowance.

There are other things to take a look at when it comes to owning a horse. It may come expensive but when you see that you have a healthy looking horse, you would definitely think that it is all worth it.
