Like humans, our pet horses need proper health care. Although they are known to possess some great stamina and speed when it comes to running, just like any other living creature; they too could also get sick and feel weak if not taken care of.
They too must be provided with a daily dietary allowance. Skipping meals could affect their health and overfeeding them will do the same. You will have to make sure that they get plenty of calories, water, vitamins and even exercise as part of their daily routine.
One of the areas that you should focus on when it comes to your horse’s health is their digestion. The common problem that you could encounter with your horse is called this issue called Colic. This is not a disease but rather it is a situation pertaining to different problems on their digestive system.
You will know that your horse is experiencing it with their constant legs stretching and kicking. Constipation is another thing to be observed and also take note of their teeth clenching.
Once you have seen this behavior with your horse, immediately see a veterinarian and see if your horse has Colic. This is really serious and should not be taken lightly because it could be a fatal case.
Colic could be a blockage of the horse’s intestine or an indication that there’s gas inside their stomach. Probably one of the worst things about this particular issue is that when your horse appears to have a twisted intestine.
There are so many reasons why your horse could suffer from Colic and the most common is making them do some hard core exercise or work right after feeding them with too much green grass.
Make sure that they rest first after eating especially if it’s a heavy meal. Let them digest what they just ate first. Do not have them engaged on heavy work right after they eat.
We humans won’t feel good as well if we are given some heavy loads to finish right after our meal. So we guess you could totally empathize with what your horse would feel in this situation.
To buy a horse is not that easy when you get to think of all the things that should you consider to ensure they’re well taken care of. But if you are responsible enough to handle it, then there wouldn’t be a problem raising one.
