Buying Miniature Horses for the First Time

If you are interested in buying a Miniature Horse, there are a few things that you can learn first about them. If you are interested in a small equine type like a donkey, you will find that they can be very sturdy animals and are well-known to be unmoved by other wild animals like foxes or coyotes. You will normally find a donkey out grazing with a flock of sheep or a herd of cattle.

You may also be interested in a pony. They can be very attractive animals and are versatile in functionality. They are also pretty easy to handle especially once they have been given some basic training. They are also easily ridden and driven.

With these other choices in mind, you may also want to try to look into Miniature Horses. You will notice at first that the asking prices of these miniature horses are a bit higher than usual. It may be a little higher than what you would be willing to spend, especially if you are buying a horse primarily just to have it as a pet.

But you can find other options, like animal rescue websites. Here you will find a list of 2 or 3 Miniature Horses that are for sale or up for adoption. With these set-ups, the asking prices can be negotiable. What you can notice at first, especially if you have had no experience of having a Mini horse, is that they do not have anything particularly special in their appearance. They mostly look like typical ponies. Especially for the untrained eye, it would probably be hard to know the difference.

But once you find the right Miniature Horse for you, you will be able to see the differences and distinctions they have from ponies. They are normally found in Europe and the Americas. They are usually 34-38 inches in height. They are about the size of the smallest pony and they come in different colors and patterns of coat.

What you will enjoy with Miniature Horses are their innate friendliness and natural interaction with people. That is why they are mostly kept as family pets. They still have normal horse behavior though, that is why they also still require training. They can also be trained to stay indoors but of course it is better to allow them to live outdoors with much space to move in. They also live longer than the average big horses. They can live from around 25 to 35 years, so they can be very good family pets or service animals.
